WORLD’S BIGGEST BANYAN

The discovery of a gigantic banyan tree in Ananthpur district of Andhra Pradesh is one among a few wonders of nature. This gigantic tree in Gutibayalu a remote sleepy village of N P Kunta mandal in Ananthpur district is about 26 kms East of Kadiri town on Rayachoti Road.

The tree is located at the foot-hills of Eshwaramala reserve forest of Kadiri range which covers an extent of 2, 869 ha.

The tree known as Thimmamma Maarimanu spreads about 8 acres of land with whopping 4, 358 supporting roots, as determined in May 2010.

The tree is nearly 580 years-old and has entered the Guinness Book of World Records. The credit for earning entry into Guinness Book of World Records goes to veteran journalist Regret Iyer of Bengaluru.
